Lumeta is seeking a Product Development Engineer to drive the product development, cost optimization, quality/reliability control, application research, testing and certification activities associated with its current product line, as well as for new products not yet announced. The Product Development Engineer will generate and implement product improvement designs aimed at reducing product costs, execute and document the required field tests of current products, develop quality control standards for suppliers, assess alternate component suppliers, and document product application know-how into training presentations and manuals to be used by the Company and other users of Lumeta products. The Product Development Engineer will also support the products certification activities for markets within and outside the US. This individual will also support PV system design requirements for DRI Energy, a sister company to Lumeta, as well as for Lumeta’s distributors and installer partners, by providing product technical and applications support. The position will report to Lumeta’s Chief Operating Officer and, depending on the selected candidate’s preference, will be based in Irvine or San Leandro, CA.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Implement product design changes aimed at improving performance, increasing reliability and/or reducing costs.
• Develop and execute long-term testing protocols for product line at company’s testing facility.
• Develop and oversee quality controls standards for product suppliers and sub-suppliers.
• Qualify alternate component suppliers for product line.
• Oversee and coordinate UL/IEC and other third party certification processes, working closely with outside certification testing laboratory.
• Develop and document product application guidelines for Lumeta’s product line; develop installation instruction manuals for existing and new products.
• Design efficient and cost-optimized grid-connected PV systems (module layout, array design, inverter and junction boxes) that result in a competitive installation advantage; generate one-line diagrams and roof layouts as needed.
• Develop product support solutions for solar installers using Lumeta products, including project design support tools, training curriculum and delivery plans.
• Provide technical project design and product support to solar installers using Lumeta products.
• Conduct product training sessions as needed.

Requirements:
Requirements:
• Five or more years of experience in product design/development of industrial, mechanical or electrical/electronic commercial products, with emphasis in cost optimization and quality control management.
• Experience interacting with contract manufacturers and/or outsourced manufacturing resources in the product development process.
• Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree in engineering, preferably with electrical, materials science or mechanical expertise.
• Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCad, Solidworks, MSProject and other design and product development tools.
• Ability to thrive and work autonomously in a challenging and demanding work environment, while successfully managing a broad range of responsibilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Three or more years of experience in design, application, component selection and/or testing of solar modules.
• Previous commercial solar system design experience with large solar integrator.
• Experience in electrical power distribution system and/or on-site generation system design, including one-line diagrams.
• Product system design experience with electrical/electronics components.
• Professional Engineer license in the State of California.
• Fluent in Mandarin (products are manufactured in China), German or French.
